These Mules Were Made for Walkin’

Luckily for me, these mules were made for walkin’, and have come back in style not a moment too soon.

A self-confessed “shoe-girl”, moving to New York from California has forced me to rethink my footwear strategy in a big way. No longer do I have the luxury of hopping in and out of my car in between meetings, after wearing my heels for one hour. Gone are the days of reverting to the comfort of driving in flip flops, slippers, or the illegal (but highly convenient) bare foot, should I find myself in a *literal* pinch.

I’ve learned the hard way that just because a shoe is flat (this also includes platforms) does NOT mean it will be comfortable. With dancer’s feet, the backs of my shoes (even sneakers)  have an affinity for rubbing painfully against the back of my heels.  While I was initially somewhat skeptical of the mule silhouette, several packs of band-aids later, I truly cannot imagine my life without these backless wonders.

For those of you that have yet to jump on the mule bandwagon, this satin bow pair from Nina is a great transitional shoe to ease you from traditional sandal, into mule territory.  Still feminine and dressy, you get the best of both worlds; the look and height of a heel, and a fresh new spin on an old classic…without any of the painful heel friction. Flats and sneakers look instantly more dressed up, and multiple times more stylish in mule form.

As I am now a full mule-devotee, I’ve rounded up some of the current styles that I’ve been coveting this season. It’s all I can do to keep myself from snapping all of them up!

Will you be wearing mules this season? If so, what are you loving so far? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
