Hi guys, I’m Jordan Landes-Brenman, and today I’m going to be telling you about elbow patches and what they’re called. It’s actually not what you would think. Elbow patches are called elbow patches. They don’t actually have a name in a fashion dictionary, but they serve a multitude of purposes. Okay, and we’ve just done a quick costume change, as you can see, Steve the mannequin is wearing a cardigan with elbow patches on it. Elbow patches were originally derived from a hunter’s shooting jacket, so when a hunter is lying in the grass, with their rifle against their shoulder on their elbows, their elbows are the first place to see wear and tear. So typically they would patch them up with a piece of leather so they didn’t have to keep replacing their jacket, which can obviously get very costly. As fashion has continued to evolve, nowadays, your seeing sweaters and cardigans which are a modern take on an old classic, with these elbow patches. It’s a chic look, and it’s a way to kind of give a little old time flavor, but interpret it in your own millennium way. And now you know what the elbow patches on sweaters are called.
