As I approach my third East Coast winter, I’ve gotten my cold-weather uniform down to a science. Here’s my list of everything you need to look chic when it’s freezing outside.
After the cold snap we had on Thanksgiving (20 degrees!) I was reminded of how cold NYC truly gets during the winter. Although it’s warmed up over the past week, I’ve already gone into deep fashion-hibernation mode. For those of you that live in warmer climates, just save this post for the next time you go on a ski vacay. 😉
TIGHTS UNDER EVERYTHING
Wear tights under jeans, dresses, you name it! This will raise your overall body temperature by at least 10 degrees. (don’t quote me on that, but it certainly feels like it) Wolford in particular makes an AMAZING pair of tights. I’ve had multiple pair for 10 years and they’ve never ripped. Enough said.
COVER THE BOTTOM HALF OF YOUR FACE & NECK
Think a snood, scarf or a jacket with a high collar. I’m a big fan of the snood, as it stays in place.
This does not necessarily have to mean a beanie. There are SO many chic options out there.
LAYERS ON LAYERS ON LAYERS
I’m a big fan of a catsuit or bodysuit, as they are seamless – ideal for layering.
Regular gloves are great and all, but let’s be honest, you’re going to be taking them off every 2 seconds to either look up directions, text, or scroll through IG. Fingerless gloves are ideal because they cover 90% off of your hands, and in a pinch you can pull them over your fingers.
I’ve mentioned my obsession with these on Instagram before, but they are ideal for simultaneously keeping you dry, and protecting a fresh blowout.
Do you try to stay cute in the cold? Even though it’s my third winter, I’m still a bit of a newbie, so would love to hear any of your tips and tricks! You can see even more of my winter outfits on Instagram.
